OCTOBER 20 READING…LAMENTATIONS 4-5 & PSALM 85
I hope you see the Lord as a God of grace and mercy, always ready to bring restoration. Sadly, many people see God as this despot in the sky ready to rain down judgment. God will judge, because He is righteous and holy, but because of His great love He is always moving to restore that which was broken by sin and disobedience. Jeremiah continued his lament over what had happened to Jerusalem, he even stated it would be better to have a quick death, than to slowly starve to death. As he closes out his book, he cries out to God to bring restoration to His people, and to the land. Jeremiah would never see that, but God had told him it would happen in seventy years. The Psalmist sings unto the Lord as song of restoration. If the Lord does not move and act, then restoration cannot happen. We ought to be extremely grateful to God for His work of restoration…for we were once estranged from Him, with no hope, and He has restored us, making us His own children.
