OCTOBER 20 READING…HEBREWS 5
All genuine high priests were called by God, just as Aaron was called…if they are not called they are illegitimate. No man had the right to assume the role and honor of being the high priest by his own desire. This, by the way, is the reason that the two who held this office in the time of Christ were both illegitimate…they were not descendants of Aaron, nor were they called of God. How could they be? They did not even recognize the Son of God when He stood before them. Jesus came by the will of God and was called the High Priest by God.
Jesus didn’t come through the line of Aaron, therefore His Priesthood was not of the Aaronic tradition…His High Priesthood was superior to that of Aaron. Christ’s Priesthood was eternal…without beginning and without end…that is why it is called of the order of Melchizedek. But the writer of Hebrews became frustrated with those he was addressing, for they had stop listening and understanding...even though he had much more to explain to them. He said they should be mature in their faith walk…but they were spiritually immature. They were still being nursed by milk, when they should have been consuming solid spiritual food.
