OCTOBER 13 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: Psalm 34

The Lord never promised that life would be without problems...but He did declare that He is greater than anything or anyone in this world. As I read the Scripture, what becomes clear is that every follower of Christ had difficulties in this world...some just because they lived in a sin fallen world...and some because they were the followers of Christ and their world and Satan came against them. The Lord said that if we would follow Him we would have trials and tribulations, but we were to be of great cheer, for He has overcome the world. The expectations of man-made religious philosophies that declare that true followers of Jesus will only have health, wealth and prosperity stand in direction opposition to the words of Jesus. While it is true that at times God chooses to bless us materially...He is much more concerned with the inner man.

The western church has not really known much in the way of persecution or tribulations. Most of our trials have been when someone has said mean things to us, or disagreed with us about our faith. There have been those who in recent days have plotted and tried through the court system and the legislative systems to remove some of the freedoms we have enjoyed here in our nation. With the way things are going, you can be sure this trend will continue, there is already a call for regulating what we say as believer's. As the world moves from nationalism to globalism, the demand that all people submit to the world's system will become greater and persecution of Bible believers will certainly increase. We must recognize that we have brothers and sisters all over the world that persecution for the faith is already their reality. As these things increase we must realize that the Lord is still on His thrown...He has not lost His power...and that He will never leave us, but will show Himself to be mighty in these days. I personally believe that the church and our faith will grow, as we will learn once again what it means to follow Christ and to wholly depend on Him!
