OCTOBER 11 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: Ephesians 6:10-20

I'm not really convinced that the church believes that we are in a spiritual battle. I do believe if we could open our eyes and see what is really going on all around us; it would change our prayers, our walk, our worship and our conversation. There is an event recorded in the Old Testament where the Prophet of God and his servant were in a battle and the servant was afraid because of the armies of the enemy. The prophet asked the Lord to open the eyes of the servant so he could see and when his eyes were open he saw the army of the heavenly hosts that surrounded them...his fear left. Our battle is not with flesh and blood, but with principalities and powers and spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places. We need the Holy Spirit to open our eyes that we might see what is really going on, so that we might pray, walk and live accordingly.

Satan is a master manipulator and he knows the human psyche inside and out. He knows we can be easily distracted and led astray when it comes to seeing what is really going on. He does this to get us involved in everything and anything, except what is really important and necessary. If he can divert our attention and our focus off of him and what he is doing, then he has free reign to continue to kill, steal and destroy. Christians are infamous about getting into fights with people, including each other, thinking that as we fight in the flesh we are doing something great for the Kingdom. The flesh cannot produce spiritual fruit...never could and never will. We need to see where the real battle is and start praying against the spiritual deception and destruction that is going on in our homes, our churches, our communities, our nation and our world. It is only then that we will see the power of God fall on us...only then will we see the Holy Spirit do things that we could never do in the flesh. It is at this place that the Devil and his spiritual forces of wickedness are defeated!
