OCTOBER 11 READING…TITUS 2
Paul exhorts Titus to only speak those things which comes from sound doctrine. Every pastor is to only speak doctrine that comes from the Scripture. The church is no place for the empty philosophies, and false doctrines of humans. Paul tells Titus to instruct the older men to be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love and in patience. To the older women they are to be instructed to reverent, not slanderous, or gossips, not be wine-bibbers, and to teach good things. They are to teach, and be examples to the younger women on how to love their husbands, and children. These younger women need to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, and obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God is glorified and not blasphemed.
The pastor in all things is also supposed to be doing that which is good. He is to be right in doctrine, always showing integrity, reverence, incorruptible by this world, and sound in speech. He is charged to exhort servants to serve their masters as they would the Lord. Paul reminds us that God’s grace appears to all people that they might have the opportunity of salvation. We are all called to deny ungodliness, worldly lust, and live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age. Keeping our eyes looking for the blessed hope we have in the glorious appearing of Jesus, the Son of God. He is our Redeemer, and has made us ready to be zealous for every good work, for we are His own special people. These things are the message and call of the biblical pastor.
