OCTOBER 10 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: Hebrews 11:1-6
Faith is another of the wonderful gifts that God gives to His children. Faith enables us to hear from God and to follow God. I define faith as, "our response to God's initiative." God is always the first mover or the initiator in all things for us...it is by faith that we respond to Him. In salvation, God is the one who calls us, we respond in faith. In prayer the Holy Spirit moves in our hearts, leads us to the very words we are to use, God answers and we respond in faith. God promises to be with us in all things as we go through our days, in faith we trust Him to be who He is and do what He does. It is true in all things in the life of the believer...God initiates and we respond...that is faith.
Now faith is never blind...though it is not something you can see. I heard a preacher once say that having faith is like standing in a completely dark room and you are standing in a circle of light...faith is stepping out of the light into the darkness and trusting God. I really believe this brother had it backwards...faith is never steeping into the darkness, but faith is actually stepping out of the darkness into God's marvelous light. The issue is that we have been in the darkness for so long we have become accustomed to it...when the light hits us at first it is hard to see, but as we trust God and continue to walk in faith, clarity comes. Our faith is only as good and life changing as the one to whom it is directed. Aren't you glad that our faith in God is never in vain...it is powerful, because He is powerful...it is life changing, because He changes lives...it touches eternity, because He is eternal...it always leads to the abundant life, because He is life. We are a people who are called, yes even privileged, to "walk by faith and not by sight!”
