NOVEMBER 6 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: HABAKKUK 2:1-4
Lord, teach me each day to walk by faith and not by what I see. It is Election season in the United States...and while it is important, it is not the most important thing. What God is doing all around us is really what is important. Henry Blackaby teaches in his book, "Experiencing God," that God is on mission all around us, everyday...God is calling us to join Him in His great mission. In order for us to do that we must stop just walking by what our eyes can see...we must stop letting events determine who we are...we must stop letting circumstances change our countenance...we must walk by faith.
My personal definition of faith is, "Our response to God's initiative." In all things God is the first mover. In other words, God moves in our lives first and faith is the gift God has given us in order that we might respond to Him. In salvation it is God who called us first, convicted us first, convinced us first. If He did not do those things we would never have come to salvation. In salvation it is God who calls and we who must respond. If we are to walk by faith, this is true in every area of life. No matter the outcome of the election, God will still be working all around us, moving in our lives...and He will continually be calling us to join Him. Faith allows us to hear that call. Faith allows us to respond to that call. Could it possibly be that for far too long the Lord's people have walked only by what we can see. We have been merely reactionary to events. We have let circumstances determine our reactions; that God is going to use even this election (whoever is elected) to wake us up and bring us back to where we must walk by faith...because we will have no choice! I want to be like the Old Testament Prophet who penned the very words of God--"It's not by power and it's not by might, but by my Spirit says the Lord of Hosts!"
Please share your thoughts.
