NOVEMBER 4 READING…JAMES 3

How’s your ability to control your tongue? The Bible says that no one can control the tongue. Only by faith is the tongue brought under control…and that is not human control, but the control of the Holy Spirit. The reality is that what ever is in our hearts will eventually come out our mouths. The mouth seems to be that which controls a person…or at least reveals who they are and what they are really like. We put little bits in huge horses mouths, and control them. We put small rudders on huge ships, and steer them where we want. The little muscle called the tongue controls so much and is impossible for mankind to tame. We tame wild animals…which reminds me, today on my hunt I was within 30 yards of a mountain lion, beautiful wild beast, able to be tamed. But we cannot tame the tongue. The tongue destroys people, and their lives. What ought to proceed out of our mouths are the good things from God…when this is happening there is no room for ugliness, bitterness, gossip, or cursing to be there.

James reminds us that their is a difference between heavenly and demonic wisdom. Our good conduct reveals that we are walking in heavenly wisdom. But if we have bitter envy or self seeking, this is not heavenly wisdom, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. The wisdom we are to walk in by faith is pure, peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy, and without partiality or hypocrisy. Which wisdom do you walk in?

Please share your thoughts from today’s reading.
