NOVEMBER 3 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: LEVITICUS 26:3-8
The Lord put us here and has left us here to make a difference. Jesus said we are to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. He warned of salt losing its savor and being good for nothing...and told us not to hide our light under a bushel. Sadly, there are many Christians who have just decided to check out and not become involved. To them the world has either gotten so bad that they don't think they can make a difference, or they feel that being involved might contaminate them, or they have let themselves become apathetic, or they are afraid. If we pull back and disconnect from the world around us, certainly nothing will ever change. But we will still be responsible to the Lord because that’s why He has us here. In Ezekiel the prophet speaks of the "Watchman on the wall" who is required to give a warning, it’s his responsibility...as it is ours to be involved in the world where God has placed us.
Some might say, "It makes no difference, God is in control"... while I would not argue that God is in control, I would disagree with the philosophy that we are just to sit back and do nothing. God is in control...but we are still required to share the gospel with the lost. God is in control...but we are still called to take care of the orphans and the widows. God is in control...but we are still to feed the poor and make sure they get justice. God is in control...but we are still to call our leaders to holiness and accountability. God is in control...but we are still to speak up and elect godly leaders and pray for them. The truth is that if God is in control of our lives, we would never just pull back from the world He put us in. We would be involved, empowered by His Spirit, making whatever difference He has called us to. Think of it this way, God is in such control that He put you and me here for this time in history to be His people making a difference for His kingdom in this temporal world. We exist by His will for such a time as this!
