NOVEMBER 28 READING…REVELATION 1

As we begin to read through Revelation, it would be easy for us to only concentrate on the prophetic message given, and miss the main purpose of the writing. It must be said that this book is not a metaphor, but a book filled with wonderful word pictures of actual people and events that will literally take place. More than the events John wrote this book under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to reveal a person…that person is Jesus. The full title of the book is “The Revelation of Jesus Christ”, and begins in the first verse to tell us that this is the main message of this book. In chapter 1, John gives us several revelations about Jesus. Verse 5 tells us that Jesus is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. In verse 8, Jesus Himself declares that He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End…the One who was, who is, and who is to come, the Almighty. In verse 11, Jesus again declares that He is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last. In verse 17, Jesus declares He is the First and the Last. In verse 18, Jesus says He is the One who lives, and was dead, and behold is alive forever more…and He holds the keys to hades and death. If you get all the events prophesied in Revelation and miss Jesus, you have missed the meaning of this wonderful book, that promises a blessing to those who read, and keep all that is written in it.

Please share your thoughts.
