NOVEMBER 26 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING:  COLOSSIANS 3:22-25

At times it can be difficult to submit ourselves to certain people in our lives. We may have an employer that is very difficult to work for, but the Bible says we are to submit and work hard for them. As a matter of fact, we are told as Christians that wherever we work and for whomever we work, whether they are pleasant or unpleasant, we are to work for them as if we are working for the Lord. The truth is, as Christians, we are always working for the Lord no matter who our earthly employer might be. That being the case, Christians should be the best employees any company has. We should give our employers our full attention and a full day’s work. We should give them our best, as we would give God our best.

Why would the Scripture tell us to do this in the secular world of business, especially if we have an employer that is very difficult? This goes back to the reason we are here on this earth...that is to glorify God. To glorify means to make known. We are here to make God known to the world and especially to the particular place that the Lord has put us. Jesus said we are to be the salt of the earth. That does not happen in the church, but out there in the world. We may be the only example of who Christ is to our employer and fellow employees. It is our call to walk in the Holy Spirit, being witnesses wherever the Lord leads us. And though you may not always have the opportunity during your work day to verbalize your faith, your walk and your performance goes a long way in providing the opportunity to share at the appropriate time. We live our lives in Christ in such a way that the lost world, including our difficult employer, sees something different in us and when they ask what it is, we have the opportunity to share Jesus with them!
