NOVEMBER 25 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: JOHN 16:5-10
The Devil deals with guilt and accusations, while the Holy Spirit brings conviction. Have you ever felt overwhelmed with a sin that you have done long ago, that you know you had confessed and you know the Lord had forgiven you? I want to tell you that is the guilt of the Devil, not the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Have you ever asked for forgiveness over and over again for some sin that you know you had confessed and had received God's forgiveness? That too is the Devil bringing guilt on you. The Bible tells us that God forgives us when we confess our sins. Our confessed and forgiven sin does not exist to God any longer. He separates them from us as far as the east is from the west. He drops them into the sea of His forgetfulness and remembers them no more. When God forgives He forgets! His forgiveness and His forgetfulness are both perfect and guaranteed when we come to Him in Christ Jesus and ask His forgiveness. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin in our lives that we need to bring it to the Lord, in order that it can be forgiven. The purpose of His conviction is always to move us toward the Lord and a vital living relationship in Christ.
This is not how the Devil works…he works in guilt, he accuses. He knows that he can weigh us down with guilt. Satan loves to accuse us; he even does it before God. The Bible says he accuses us before the throne of God, both day and night. But we have in Christ Jesus an advocate; therefore, God does not receive these accusations. So he turns and continues to accuse us and pour guilt into our lives, so that he might try to destroy the peace of God in us. What are we to do? Well, if you have been forgiven of God, don't ever let that Devil pile you up with guilt. Know you are forgiven, declare you are forgiven and walk in that forgiveness! If there is sin in your life that you haven't confessed, know that the Holy Spirit is convicting you. Receive His conviction, confess your sin to God, receive His forgiveness and walk in your redemption...free in Christ Jesus.
