NOVEMBER 20, 2024 ~ A WALK THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

NOVEMBER 20 READING…1 JOHN 3

What a wonderful and gracious God we have, who also has us. John reminds us of the enormity of the love of God that He would allow us to be called His children. He has adopted us through the finished work of His Son Jesus for our salvation. The world does not know the fullness of this love, because they don’t know God. It is in knowing God that we also know the love of God. And yet, even we, this side of heaven do not know the fullness of all that the Lord has for us. Because He loves us, and because He has genuinely saved us, we desire now to live pure lives in this world that knows nothing of biblically pure lives. Those who practice sin are slaves to that sin. We are followers of Jesus, so we are free from the bondage of sin. Jesus came to take away our sins, and that is exactly what He did through the death of Jesus on the cross…but we must put our faith in trust in Jesus to acquire this pardon. Now that we are in Jesus, and He is in us, we no longer walk in sin…the desire of our heart is to walk in righteousness. John reminds us that biblical love does not manifest itself in our words only, but our actions are the evidence that we really love God and love others. The greatest of love is seen in the willingness to lay our lives down for others. The primary command that God has called us to obey is to put our faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. This is more than a profession of faith; it is a life that abides in Christ and has Christ abiding in us. God has given us the Holy Spirit at the time of our salvation. The Spirit daily confirms that we are saved and are the children of God.
