NOVEMBER 19 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: 1 SAMUEL 15:22-23
Rebellion is a huge thing in the Bible...we are told that "Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft." How is this so? We were created by God, for God. It is His intent that we walk and live controlled by the Holy Spirit who lives within us. Witchcraft speaks of control also, but not the control of God’s Spirit. Witchcraft seeks to manipulate a person to do things that are beyond their control. It literally seeks to control their will by force. That force intends to make them act in a way that is not according to who they are, or were created to be. Rebellion against God is contrary to who we are and who He has made us to be. Rebellion makes the person feel they are in control, while the reality is, in rebellion against God one is completely out of control.
The Book of Judges is filled with a clear description of rebellion in God's people, "When there was no judge in the land the people did what was right in their own eyes.” As you read Judges, you clearly see this was not a good thing. It led to all kinds of ungodly decisions and actions on the part of the people. Rebellion is dangerous and brings harm, physically, emotionally and spiritually. You look around today and both inside the church and in society we are a rebellious people. Our nation has rebelled against Almighty God and does whatever it wants. We make our own standards and then shake our fist in God's face and tell Him He will just have to accept us as we are and as we want to be! Churches have rebelled against God's Word and have replaced it with the insidious doctrine of man and doctrines of demons. The answer to rebellion is repentance...brokenness toward God and a return to the place of submission to His will and way. If we do not, the next step is judgment! Today let's you and me move all rebellion out our lives, repent to God and return to Him so we may walk and live as the people He created us to be.
