NOVEMBER 18 READING…2 PETER 3
Final words from the Apostle Peter, as he is led by the Holy Spirit. He speaks to the church about the fact that the Lord Jesus is coming again. He tells us to remember the words of the prophets…knowing that they were inspired by the Holy Spirit. That being the case, what they prophesied must surely come true…remember, all the prophecies of Christ first coming have come true, and so will those concerning His second coming. What we can know is there will always be scoffers and mockers. They will ridicule us, and make fun of our faith. They willfully forget what has happened according to the Word of God, and in their impatience and self-exalting mockery, they accuse God of not being able to keep His promise. what they refuse to understand is that God does not count time as we do, nor is He bound by our timetable. Jesus will return, and He will be right on time.
When Christ returns it will be a huge surprise to those who have mocked Him. It will be a day of great devastation. Ultimately, all will be consumed by the fire of God’s judgment. Until that day we are encouraged to live holy lives filled with peace. We are told to rest in the sure Word of God…even those things that are hard to understand. Finally, we are told to stay the course…don’t give up…remain faithful.
