NOVEMBER 17 READING…2 PETER 2
Peter instructs the church concerning the danger of false teachers/preachers. These intentionally bring in their destructive heresies…even to the point of denying the very Lord Jesus they lie about proclaiming. Sadly, many will follow these false teachers, whose motivation is their covetousness and their tactic is deceptive words. Peter reminds us that God did not spare the angels who sinned, nor will he overlook or spare these false teachers. God judged the ancient world of Noah, and destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. He will do the same to these false teachers… while at the same time He will save those who genuinely follow Him from the snare of these teachers.
How do we identify these false teachers? They walk according to their flesh…they are sensual and carnal. They reject and defy any legitimate authority over them. They are presumptuous, self-willed, and unafraid of speaking evil against those who hold a position of authority in the kingdom of God. These teachers are like brute beasts speak evil about that which they are ignorant. They are corrupt, and heading for their own destruction. They rip people off, receiving wages they did not earn…they are spiritually unclean, sitting at the table of the Lord. They are adulterous…and intentionally use people, while they themselves are accursed. They promise refreshment, but they offer only dirty water. They speak great sounding words, but those words are absent the power of the Holy Spirit. They promise people freedom, but they are in bondage to their lies, and bring others into the same captivity. They are like dogs who return to their vomit, for though they have known the truth, they have chosen the lie…and they intentionally are leading others to believe the lie.
