NOVEMBER 1 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: 2 CHRONICLES 7:12-18

Around the interior wall of our worship center we have 2 Chronicles 7:14. I shared a series of sermons on this passage and though the words were specifically for Israel, reminding them to stay right with God in order to receive His blessings, I believe the principle in this passage can be applied to us also. Most of the time, when a country moves away from God the church looks at the secular society and casts all the blame on them. While it is true that those who reject God are responsible for their actions and those actions will bring God's judgment on a nation...it is also true that the secular world was never called to be the salt and light of the world! They cannot be what they are not; they walk in darkness because they are spiritually blind. They live in sin because they are sinners. They wander into all kinds of ungodliness because they are lost. It is we, who are wonderfully saved, that can and must make a difference in this sin-fallen world.

I look around me, especially this time of year when the elections are taking place and I see Christians consumed by fear. I see believers whose countenance is completely changed, even treating other believers with disdain. I hear followers of Christ who are willing to set aside what they know to be true and right in order to support their candidate from a partisan position. Just because it is an election year does not mean we cease being the salt and light that Jesus told us to be. It certainly does not mean we stop loving one another and edifying each other in Christ. This world is dark and getting darker and the only thing that will push back the darkness is the light of Christ in His people. God saved us and placed us here at this exact time to fulfill His plan in this world. Don't take your eyes off Jesus, because of this political event. The Lord has placed the spiritual responsibility of the nations on us. We are His plan to change the world! He says, "IF MY PEOPLE..."
