MAY 7 READING…JUDGES 7-8 & PSALM 83
We must be careful not to claim that which belongs to the Lord. God was moving through Gideon in the book of Judges. The Lord was going to defeat the Midianites. Gideon started with 32,000 men, but God said that was too many…for Israel would claim the victory for themselves when they defeated the Midianites. They like many Christians today would have said, “Look what we have done for the Lord”. The Lord had Gideon reduce the fighting force to 300 men, and through these men, God was going to give them victory over the Midianite army. We must be reminded that it is not about what we do for God, but what God does through us. When we have this proper understanding, then God gets the glory. We do not serve the Lord for our glory, but for His. The Psalmist cries out to God for victory over the enemies of Israel. As we read this the Psalm is concluded by the expression of a desire that the Lord do this for His Name's sake and His glory. God will not share His glory with anyone.
