MAY 6 READINGS…ACTS 1
Today we begin the book of Acts. Acts is the history book of the New Testament as it speaks of the establishment of the Church. Some title it, “The Acts of the Apostles “, while others title it “The Acts of the Holy Spirit”. It records the work of the Holy Spirit through the Apostles at the birth of the church, and it’s spread throughout the know world. There are things that happen in Acts that never happen again, part of this is to help believers, both Jew and Gentile alike to move from the old covenant system to the new. Luke is the human author of this book, while Paul, his conversion, and his ministry consume most of the writing in this book.
Chapter one begins where the Gospel of Luke ends. Jesus gives the promise of the Holy Spirit to come in a way like never before. When He comes the believers would be empowered to accomplish the ministry of sharing the Gospel, fulfilling the great commission. It is important for us to understand that the Holy Spirit does not merely impart power. He is God within us…He is the power! After Jesus share this promise with His disciples He ascends to heaven, and would be there until He comes again. The disciples replace Judas with Matthias, and from that time he is numbered with the other Apostles. There would be one more Apostle added, but that will happen in a few chapters.
Please share your thoughts from today’s reading.
