MAY 5 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: HEBREWS 11

It's crazy what people have done with faith. They have turned it into a "force" that can be used to change things. In this view it is more akin to witchcraft than anything found in the Scripture. People are told to use "faith filled" words to create their own reality. This group tells people that even God used faith to create the universe and that if we would just use the "faith of God" then we too, could be as creative as He is. There are those who teach people to have "faith in their faith," as if the object of worship and trust is our faith. This is teaching idolatry. There are those who teach a "measurement of faith" ...if you just had more faith...you need to acquire more faith...you need to build a reservoir of faith. These are men's warped teachings on faith, not what the Bible teaches. Sadly, there are multitudes following these bad teachings and teachers.

Biblical faith is toward God. It has no inherent power in itself. The power in faith is found in the One who gives it and the One it's directed toward. In faith God is always the first to move in all things, our faith is our response to God's initiative. God moves, we respond...God speaks, we listen, God commands, we obey, God directs, we follow, God loves, we love back. This is faith. There is no power in faith without God. Faith is not willing something to happen or making something happen. Faith is responding to the Lord and fully trusting Him to bring about His perfect will in all things. Only God has that kind of power, no human possesses it. Men fool themselves when they teach a "faith" that is moved by the will of man rather than by the power of God.
