MAY 4 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: HEBREWS 10:19-25

There is something wonderful and very special about the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. He has made us into His body here on earth and we need each other. There is an old saying, "No person is an island." Nowhere is this truer than when it comes to the church. The Lord never intended us to go it alone, but to join with other born-again believers in Christ as His church. By design, the Lord's church is to be wonderfully diverse, while at the same time unified in its identity, its purpose, its Lord. In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul likens the church to a human body, made up of many different parts, but still one body. Each part being who the Lord has called them and created them to be alongside all the other parts working in perfect unity with Jesus as the head. A healthy church is diverse in this way and unified as one. When each part is functioning fully, the body is strong and accomplishing its purpose.

In Hebrews 10, the Author tells us that we are not to forsake our time of being together as the church. We need that gathering for several important reasons. We need to be encouraged in our walk. This world can be hard and cruel; it's not always easy to walk in the faith. We need to be equipped in the faith that was once and for all delivered to the saints. As we gather, there is teaching that happens so that we will have what we need for our daily journey. We need to worship together. There is something special when genuine corporate worship happens when the church is gathered together. We need to fellowship. It is necessary that we have a time to share our lives, our struggles, our blessings and our concerns. We need a time to pray together. The church praying together, in agreement, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit is powerful. We are the body of Christ in the world today, let's not miss the wonderful opportunity we have been given to be together in Jesus' Name!
