MAY 31 READINGS...Proverbs 14:1-16:33
You may have noticed over the weekend that the style of Solomon’s writings changed from long dialogues to short sayings. These are the proverbs, or wisdom from God. They are proverbs, not promises...be careful you don’t try to claim them as absolute promises of what the result will be when you keep them. It is important to keep them...for they are wisdom from God, and their proverbial outcome are much more likely to occur if we keep them. One important proverb I want to point out in today’s reading is in chapter 16, verse 18...”Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.” Pride is never good, it is the original sin...and today especially people seem to take pride in their sin. The LGBTQ movement is based on the celebration and pride of the sins of sexual perversion...and the Lord says this kind of sinful pride will bring destruction through His judgment.
In today’s writings Solomon speaks a lot about both the foolish and the wise. Look at the contrast he draws. The fool has proud talk, and makes fun of guilt. The fool is a simpleton who believe everything they are told...they are clothed in foolishness. A fool despises their parent’s discipline...and they only bring joy to those with no sense. In contrast we have the wise. The wise are cautious and avoid danger...they give good advice. The wise person is hungry for knowledge...and are known for their understanding. The wise speak wise words...their words are persuasive and powerful. We only have to ask the Lord for wisdom and He will give it to us. Stay away from foolish people...don’t even enter into a debate or conversation with them...for they are the swine that the Lord said will just trample on any “pearls” of wisdom you place before them.
Please share your thoughts from today’s readings. Look how far you have come in the reading of the Bible, you are one month away from finishing half of the Bible. What a blessing to be able to read the Word of God...it really is like honey from the honeycomb.
