MAY 30, 2022 ~ 52 WEEKS THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT

MAY 30 READING…ACTS 17

Paul and Silas continue to Thessalonica where they preached in the synagogue. The Jews for the most part rejected their message, but many of the Gentiles came to faith. The Jews became envious, and incited a group of bad people to invade Jason’s house, supposing to find the apostles there...when they could not find them they took money from Jason and warned them. The unbelievers made a statement here that I desperately wish the unbelieving world would say about us today…”these are the ones that turned the world upside down”. It is so sad that for the most part the world doesn’t even consider us, or care that we exist. We have little impact on our world. It’s time to wake up, get up, and turn our world upside down! They come to Berea and are impressed that the aberrant checked them out by the Scripture... then they accepted what Paul shared. We need to be like the Bereans…for Scripture, not men, is our final objective authority.

They came to Athens, that great city of Greece. In this city Paul goes to where all the men meet pondering their gods, and the meaning of life. He comments on the fact that they were very religious, even having among their many statues to their gods, one for the “unknown god”. Paul used this to tell them about the one true God. He did this telling them about God’s eternal attributes, His plans for mankind, and finally sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Their response was like that of people today…some believed…some mocked…and some said we need to hear more. As you share the Gospel in the world you will get one of these responses, know this as you go out, and then trust God with the results…they belong to Him.

Please share your thoughts from today’s reading.
