MAY 26 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: PSALM 19
Psalm 19:1-6 proclaims tremendous truth concerning God. It begins with, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork." The Psalmist goes on to talk about how God has ordered the rising and setting of the sun to speak His truth. All creation reveals God. Who but God could have made all things with such perfect order? All one has to do is to go out on a clear night and look up into the sky and you have to be awed by what the Lord has done. Considering the universe puts things in proper perspective, for the Lord created it and holds it in His hand. Who is man that He should be concerned about us? And yet this mighty and awesome Creator cares about each one of us, intimately. The laws of physics remind us that order does not come out of chaos. By its very nature the universe demands a Creator. By its design the universe reveals the Creator's existence, and by its incredible beauty and complexity the universe reveals the glory of its Creator.
I have traveled around the globe several times and thought of how big this world is, but in comparison to the universe our earth is but a speck in the sky. Hopefully, you have had the experience of visiting a planetarium and looked through a powerful telescope into the heavens. One can't help but be amazed! Or maybe you have looked at a picture taken from a telescope out in space and seen the wonders and the beauty of God's creation, that neither your eye nor an earthly telescope could show you. The vastness of just the known universe staggers our minds, but what about that which is beyond our knowledge? The Psalmist spoke words of truth and revelation. The heavens do indeed declare the glory of the Lord! Paul echoes the Psalmist's words when he says, "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made..." (Romans 1:20).
