MAY 20 READING…1 SAMUEL 17 & PSALM 27
The theme of today’s reading is found in our first verse in Psalm…” The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?” David was God’s choice for king of Israel. When no one saw anything in David, God saw a great man of faith, who had a great desire for the heart of God. Israel stood petrified before the army of the Philistine’s, and their champion, the giant Goliath. No one dared to fight the giant, but David stepped forward with a great declaration of faith…”Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should stand against the armies of the living God?” David volunteered to fight the giant. Saul tried to provide the equipment for David to use…but it wasn’t what God had for him. Instead he took his slingshot, and picked up five smooth stones. With one of those stones he stood fearless before the giant, Goliath. David slung the stone, and killed Goliath. How is it possible for an untrained shepherd to kill a mighty warrior giant? David knew God was both his strength and his salvation. Remember my friends there are no giants that can defeat you when you walk in faith, without fear, trusting in the salvation of the Lord.
