MAY 15 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: LUKE 10:17-20
Everything God has called us to He also equipped us for. The kingdom work of God and even being a true follower of Jesus is impossible for us to do on our own. So God has promised us His power to do all that He calls us to. When we talk about the power of God, it's not merely an infusion of power that God sends down to us. It is God Himself dwelling in us in the Person of the Holy Spirit who empowers us to walk and be the people He created us to be. Sometimes we treat the Holy Spirit as God's charging station, but He is not just the giver of power, it is in Him that we receive God's power. Every miracle done in the New Testament at the hands of Christ's Apostles was done by the power of the Holy Spirit in them. They did not just go off on their own after receiving an infusion of power and accomplish great things. They accomplished great things by the power of the Holy Spirit who indwelled them.
Walking in the power of the Holy Spirit who indwells us changes everything. Jesus told His followers that they would, "tread on serpents and scorpion, and they would have power over the enemy, and nothing would hurt them." This promise is true for all followers of Jesus because the Holy Spirit is in them. You say wait a minute, "I know people who have died serving the Lord." That is true, but the eternal reality is that whatever caused their physical death did not, nor could not, harm them. We are in the hands of our Savior, and nothing can touch us when it comes to eternity. We need to walk daily in the power and presence of His Holy Spirit and we will both see and do things that are supernatural. We are to be kingdom people, and our Lord has been given all authority, and He has given us His Holy Spirit that we might be all that God has called us to be, and do all that God has designed for us to do.
