MAY 10 READING…JUDGES 12-14 & PSALM 143
In our reading in Judges today we begin the story of Samson. One of the most famous of the Judges of Israel. There is much that can be gleaned from the story of Samson…for me it is the truth revealed in this story concerning the loss of God given opportunities. God was good to the parents of Samson, for He gave them a son when they were considered barren. The Lord had instructed Samson’s parents that he would be a Nazarite from birth…that was he was dedicated to the Lord, with the sign of this that no razor would touch his hair, and he could not drink wine. Samson was a gift from God, and his parents were required to raise him up in the way of the Lord. They missed the opportunity that God provided for them through the gift of a son. It was clear that they raised a self-centered selfish young man, rather than a servant of God. Samson’s life is a sad testimony to one who continually missed the opportunities God gave him. In Psalm, we see the desire of the writer to have God move in their life. This should be the desire of all of us who are the children of God. We need to be careful to avoid the path of Samson and his parents, and not miss our God given opportunities…if we ask for His presence and blessings, we need to walk in His presence and blessings.
