MARCH 31 READING…DEUTERONOMY 4 & JOHN 21
Today’s theme is the evidence of genuine love. In Deuteronomy 4 Moses ties obedience to loving God. Genuine love of God is seen in our obedience. Later in the New Testament Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep my commandments”. The evidence that there is no genuine love of God is our disobedience. Moses tied this to the original commandment, “You shall have no other gods before Me”. Moses told the Israelites that there would be dire consequences if they went off into idolatry…sadly, they did not listen. Their love for God died, as they went after other gods. In the last chapter of John, Jesus uses the opportunity of calling Peter back, after his denial, to a walk of love. How do we know we genuinely love the Lord? It is seen in how we treat His sheep. Whether it be people in the church, people in your small group, our kids and grandkids, a friend we are walking with in the faith, or a new believer in Jesus. Love is expressed as we feed, tend, and love the Lord’s sheep.
