MARCH 29 READING…DEUTERONOMY 2 & PSALM 22 & JOHN 19
Today’s theme is a call for us to keep the main thing the main thing. In Deuteronomy the instruction was to stay focused, and to not spend time harassing the nations that the Israelites passed through on their way to the promise land. When we get distracted by minutia, we lose focus, and start to wander about aimlessly. Moses called Israel to keep the main thing the main thing, as they followed the Lord’s leadership to the land of promise. In Psalm 22, a thousand years before the described events occurred, the Lord gave the psalmist a prophetic view of the sacrifice of the coming Messiah. The Lord was so exact in His revelation to the psalmist that it can’t be seriously argued that he is speaking of anything other than the crucifixion of Jesus. One thousand years before it happened the Lord inspired the psalmist to keep the main thing the main thing. In John 19, we have the culmination of the Old Testament prophecy concerning the sacrifice of the Messiah. It was for this reason Jesus said He came into the world. On that day He paid for our sin completely. He suffered the punishment of both mankind, and His Father, for our sins. He died in our place so we could have eternal life. He was innocent, but was judged for our sin (my sin)…so that we would never have to be judged for it. He gave up everything so we could have everything. All He requires is that we put our faith and trust in Him. And why wouldn’t we? He loved us enough to die for us…He loves us enough to change us from the inside out…and He loves us enough to provide for each of we who trust in Him as Savior, eternal life. This is the main thing!
