MARCH 28 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: GENESIS 3:12-19
On the cross Jesus bore our sins...our sins were laid upon Him and He took the punishment that we deserved. In the fall of mankind all things were affected...man's relationship with God was broken...the animal kingdom changed...even the ground was cursed because of man's sin. The garden was a beautiful place, every plant perfect and harmless. After the fall things changed, the ground would be hard to care for and man would have to fight weeds and thorns for the first time. The crown Jesus wore on the cross...a crown of thorns, represents the curse and that our sins were placed upon Him.
Jesus was not cursed, but He experienced our curse. Jesus never sinned, but He bore our sin. He was "despised and rejected," and mankind wanted nothing to do with Him. They hated Him and rather than see Him as worthy of worship, they saw Him as smitten of God. There was nothing beautiful about the cross...the beauty is in the One who willingly went to the cross for us. The crown He wore that day symbolized the fullness of the result of the curse brought on by mankind's sin. As He took that cross upon His brow; He voluntarily took upon Himself the guilt, the shame, the punishment for the sin of all mankind. He did this because He loves you and me. The day is coming when He will return and He won't be wearing an ugly crown of thorns. King Jesus will come with His eternal diadem upon His head!
