MARCH 27 READING…NUMBERS 35-36 & JOHN 17
God is our Provision, is the theme of today’s reading. In Numbers 35-36 God continues to provide for His people. For the tribe of Levi, who was to minister in the lives of God’s people throughout the land, God gives them cities. To the innocent person who accidentally kills another, God provides cities of refuge, for their safety. For the daughters of Zelophehad, who would have no inheritance of land, God provided wisdom, so that they would have an inheritance, while the appointed tribal distribution of land would remain intact. In John 17, we have the ultimate example of God being our provision. Jesus is praying, and His prayer is that His Father would be His provision, as He faced the cross. Then Jesus prays for His Father to be the provision for His disciples, and keep them, as Jesus was about to leave them. Then Jesus prays for us…He prays that God would be our provision in the life He has called us to. We are the ones who believe through the testimony of Christ’s disciples. The evidence that we are recognizing that God is our provision is our unity in Christ. When Christ calls us, He calls us into a unity that is like the unity He shares with His Father. Disunity in the true church is not from God, and it does not bring Him glory. When we all recognize our total dependence on God to be our provision in all things, it brings the kind of unity Jesus has called us to.
