MARCH 15 READING…NUMBERS 23 & JOHN 5
Our theme today is that we can never forget that it is God who we must seek as He reveals Himself and His truth. God continued to reveal His truth to Balaam as Balak sought to get Balaam to curse Israel. Three times in today’s reading, from three different places Balak tried to get Balaam to curse God’s people. In each case these attempts were turned into God blessing Israel through the prophet Balaam.
In John 5, Jesus declares His identity to religious leaders…though they rejected all that He said. He called Himself the Son of God, with such a close relationship with His Father, that anything he said or did came right from His Father. Jesus even claimed to be the final Judge over all things, and all people. He did not just claim these things for Himself, but told them there was a five-fold witness that He is the Son of God…God Himself. These witnesses are, the Holy Spirit…John the Baptizer…Jesus’ miracles…God the Father…and the Old Testament Scriptures. Finally, Jesus pointed out that though the religious leaders bragged about having Moses and the law…they didn’t really believe Moses, for he wrote of Jesus. Since they didn’t believe Moses, they certainly wouldn’t believe Jesus.
