MARCH 14, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

MARCH 14 READING…NUMBERS 22 & JOHN 4

Today’s theme is that God is to be TOTALLY in charge, not partially in charge…this He is to be obeyed completely. In Numbers we have the story of Balaam being requested by Balak to curse the people of Israel, Balaam would not, so the men of Balak wanted him to return with them to Moab. God told Balaam he was not to go, then God said he could go…when he went God’s anger rose against Balaam, an angel came to stop him, but his donkey saved his life. Was God confused to let Balaam go, only to become angry for him going? The key to understanding is found both in verse 20 of our reading and in Jude 11 in the New Testament. In verse 20 there is a two letter word that set God’s condition on Balaam, the word “if”…rather than waiting on the “if” to happen, Balaam moved ahead filled with greed according to Jude 11. God would have allowed Balaam to proceed to Moab, if the conditions God set for him were met…Balaam did not wait to see if they would be, and moved ahead on his own.

John 4 also reminds us that the Lord does things His way…for He is Lord and sovereign over all. Though it was not the way of Jew to meet, or even speak to a Samaritan…Jesus intentionally met this Samaritan woman at the well, and brought salvation to her and her community. He shared His way and ministry to His disciples…the way of bringing in the harvest. Then Jesus brings healing to a nobleman’s son, not by going to where his son was, but by speaking words of healing. We cannot command the Lord to do things our way…we cannot get out ahead of the Lord…we must wait on Him to be who He is in every situation…for He is our Sovereign.

Please share your thoughts.
