MARCH 13 READING…LUKE 9
Luke chapter 9 is filled with important truths for us as followers of Jesus. It starts with the disciples being sent out to preach the truth of God…while doing this they would also minister to the needs of the people they came across. We find in this passage a model for God’s call on us. We are called to take the Gospel of Christ out in the world that does not know Him…and we are called to minister to the needs of the people as we do. We should always care primarily about the eternal condition of the souls of others…but we should also care about and for their earthly needs. Jesus demonstrates this as He teaches thousands about the kingdom of God…and then performs a miracle by meeting their physical needs and feeding the people. Peter is given insight from the Holy Spirit that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. This truth given to Peter is shown to us by God on the mount of transfiguration. The Lord speaks of the cost of being His followers…and then speaks of His own death. Then Jesus teaches what if means to function in the kingdom of God…and shows that things in God’s kingdom are not like the things in the world.
