MARCH 13, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

MARCH 13 READING…NUMBERS 21 & PSALM 135 & JOHN 3

Today’s theme is the salvation of the Lord. Sin in our lives is deadly, like the bite from a serpent. Rebellion always leads to more sin in our lives. The Israelites rebelled and complained against Moses, as they were tired of the Manna (the bread from heaven)…just like today some tire of the Word of God. The Lord sent serpents into the camp, and when they bit the people, they died. When they confessed their sin, God had Moses set up a brass serpent on a pole (just as Jesus would be raised up one day)…and anyone who was bitten by a serpent that looks to the brass serpent would not die (just as all who look to the Savior on the cross, and believe, will have eternal life). Both are an act of faith…believing that salvation comes from the Lord.

Psalm 135 is an expression of praise to God who both the Creator, and the Redeemer. The One who created all things, is the only One who can bring redemption to fallen man. In John 3 Jesus encounters Nicodemus, and the truth about how salvation is brought upon mankind is proclaimed. No amount of religion can make us right with God. One must be born again..that is born of the Spirit. Jesus was lifted up on the cruel cross, just as Moses raised the brass serpent on the pole…both were raised to bring life. God sent His Son, who did not come to condemn, but to bring salvation to whoever would believe in Him. Even the great prophet John the Baptizer proclaimed that it was all about Jesus…he reminds us what ought to be true in our lives when it comes to Jesus…”He must increase, I must decrease”.
