MARCH 9 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING:  ROMANS 11:33-36

The Bible really is amazing...it is the very Word of God. The book of Hebrews says the Word is, "Alive, powerful and sharper than a two-edge sword..." It is able to reach into the depths of who we are and it is the discerner of all that is. By definition, the Scripture is infallible and inerrant; for how could it be God's Word and be other than completely true and completely correct? The Word of God is also eternal, though He gave it to men by revelation in the appropriate time; He is not coming up with this truth from a progressive stand point. His Word, which is true, is eternally true. The truth of God's Word that has been revealed to us in time is established in eternity!

Since God's Word is perfect, powerful, complete...it is all that we need to be equipped for the work that God has called us to, in His Holy Spirit. I, like so many others, like good books...books for enjoyment...books for study...books about people and events. But there is no book like the Bible. If we spend more time in other books rather than His Book, we will be feeding our souls with things that will not last. I am always amazed at the number of "how to" books that are for sale in Christian bookstores. They must sell, because everyone seems to be writing them. I don't spend time in those books. I believe the Lord gave us His instruction in His Word and if Christians would spend time in the Scriptures, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, we would be completely equipped for every good work. Any "how to" book that drives you to a methodology rather than to the Scripture is going to leave you incomplete and missing something. It is in the Word that we encounter God. It is in the Word that God encounters us. I love the thought that the Bible was not given to only scholars or only to a class of spiritual elite...but it was given to us by God Himself and it is revealed to us by His Holy Spirit. We are so blessed that God chose to give us His infallible, inerrant, powerful, living Word!
