MARCH 5 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: COLOSSIANS 2:11-15
One of the great old hymns of the church is, "Victory In Jesus.” This great song reminds us that in Jesus we already have the victory. Now where do you suppose the writer of that hymn got that idea? Yes, from the Scripture. Paul tells us that we are, "more than conquerors in Christ Jesus.” He tells us that Christ has conquered sin, death and hell. He proclaims that Jesus disarmed the enemy, defeated him and made a public spectacle of him. Jesus has won the victory...and we who are in Christ get to share in that victory, we are winners in Christ. The Scripture reminds us that this victory is complete and eternal. Complete in that there is no more need to fight for it, Jesus has won. Eternal in that it lasts forever...nothing can change the outcome.
It is important that we followers of Christ acknowledge this victory and live like Christ has won, therefore, we too have won. Far too often we live defeated lives, not because we have to, but for some reason, we chose to neglect the great victory of Christ in our lives. This is not some "name it, claim it" self-willed, self-centered power to declare what we want to happen. This is declaring and living the eternal truth that Christ has won the victory over Satan and He has given us the victory in Himself. In Christ we have every promise of God, including that the enemy of our soul cannot overcome us, for Christ has crushed his head. Satan has no power over the child of God. He likes to accuse, he likes to discourage, he likes to call us losers, he likes to remind us we don't deserve anything because we are sinners. What he can't fully comprehend is that we sinners have been redeemed of God and now have been made "more than conquerors in Christ Jesus.” When that liar, Satan, reminds you of your past and tries to take away your victory, you remind him of his future and the fact that he has already a lost to Jesus!
