JUNE 9 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: JOHN 11:17-27
Physical death is a reality for us all. We are given but a few years on this earth, then eternity. These bodies that we are given are not equipped to live forever, so we have to put these bodies off and go through the portal called death. Death means separation, physical death means our souls will be separated from our bodies, everyone will experience this. Spiritual or eternal death means that our souls are separated from our Creator, God. Those who have trusted in Jesus do not ever experience spiritual death. In Christ we have been given eternal life. Jesus says though we will die (physically), yet we shall live (spiritually). This is our promise, this is our hope, and this is what we were created for. Sin has done this to all mankind. Sin has separated us from God. Jesus died for our sin and made it so we could once again have a relationship with God. All that we must do is trust Him, believe in Him as our Lord and Savior.
What a great promise! I hope you know this promise and have trusted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. What a great thing to know the assurance that our sins are forgiven and that we have eternal life. Without this assurance life would lose all its meaning. The thought that we were only intended to exist for a few years seems so futile. God’s plan in His Son Jesus is for eternity…and Jesus has made it possible for us to know the assurance of the plan.
