JUNE 30, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

JUNE 30 READING…2 KINGS 11-12 & MARK 11

It seems that as countries “progress” corruption becomes the norm. When Ahaziah, king of Judah dies, his mother Athaliah, seizes the throne and assassinated all the royal heirs, so that no man could claim the throne. But, the daughter of king Joram hid a young boy named Joash, the only male heir to the throne from Athaliah. A few years later, under guard, they brought Joash to the temple to crown him king…and the killed the evil woman, Athaliah. Joash became king at age seven, and as long as the priest Jehoiada was there to instruct him, he did what was right in the sight of the Lord…though not completely. The days continue to grow dark for Judah and Israel, as they continue in their spiritual harlotry in the worship of idols. In Mark we have Jesus entering into Jerusalem, a corrupt people…this is just after He wept over the spiritual condition of the city and nation. Jesus cleanses the temple for a second time…but the real corruption was in the whole system, because the hearts of the spiritual leaders and the people were corrupt. They would not receive the Messiah, they had a new idol…their god was religion and power. Lord help us to stay focused only on You…to worship only You…to love no other god, but You. God help the church and help the nation. We have become a corrupt people!
