JUNE 17 READING…1 KINGS 16 & 1 CORINTHIANS 14
The Lord brings stability and order into our lives…His creation speaks of the fact that He is a God of order. Rebellion against the Lord brings confusion and anarchy. Israel has no stability because one king after another not only does evil, but leads the people into all kinds of evil. God holds leaders responsible for their evil deeds. Too many of our leaders are corrupt and evil from local, to state, to national. We are reaping the consequences of evil leadership. In Israel there was one king murdering another, while each one was more evil than than his predecessor, leading God’s people into rebellion. Until one of the most evil of them all takes the throne, Ahab. In 1 Corinthians, Paul is concerned about disorder in the church…this is causing confusion. People have exalted the speaking of tongues above all other gifts, and they are using them to claim spiritual superiority over other believers…they were out of control. Paul puts them in order…for speaking clear words of the Lord are more important than speaking in tongues. Paul emphasizes order when the church meets…for the church is not a free for all…but a place, and a people who gather to worship and focus on the Lord.
