JUNE 15 READING…1 KINGS 12-13 & 1 CORINTHIANS 12
Today’s theme is whose council are you going to listen to. Solomon is dead and his son Rehoboam would be the next king. Jeroboam led the people to entreat Rehoboam asking for a relief of taxes against the people imposed by Solomon. When Rehoboam asked the elders about the matter, they advised him to lighten the load. But, then he went unwise young men that he had grown up with and they told him to make the burden even greater. He listen to the young men, causing the people to revolt against the house of David. This cause a split, Rehoboam would be king of Judah (the south), and Jerobaom king of Israel (the north). Jeroboam brought idol worship to Israel, and a prophet told him of a destructive prophecy coming upon him and his house. Then the man of God was told by the Lord to go home, but not to stop and eat on the way…the man listen to a false prophet and it cost him his life. In 1 Corinthians the counsel of Paul was to tell the church that God works in many ways, and not all people will be gifted in the same way. We are to celebrate the diversity of gifts the Holy Spirit gives…they make us whole and strong as the body of Christ.
