JULY 7 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: DANIEL 9:3-11
When you look around at the spiritual condition of the country, have you ever thought to yourself, or even said, well at least I'm not responsible for how things are? Have you ever heard of the sin of omission? You and I might be able to write out a long list of the particular sins that we see destroying our country and check them off, one by one, saying, "Not guilty!" With that done we can feel pretty justified in proclaiming we are not as bad as the rest and the moral and spiritual dearth of America is not our problem. The problem is, it is our problem and we are responsible for the spiritual condition of our nation.
The Prophet Samuel said to King Saul, "…may I not sin against the Lord, by ceasing to pray for you…" Paul tells us to pray for those in authority. And Daniel, set his face toward God and lifted up his prayers to God, where he confessed the sins of his people and prayed that God might have mercy upon a sinful people, even while they were in captivity. Has America gone too far for God to act and bring her back? I know God is able...the question is, has He decided to take His hand off of us completely. I don't know the answer to that question...what I do know is we the church are still here and we are required to fervently pray for our nation and we sin when we fail to do so.
Regardless of what tomorrow holds for this country, we must be in prayer, confessing our personal and corporate sin. We need to be praying that God's Name would be glorified in our nation once again. As long as we have breath, this needs to be our prayer.
Please share your thoughts.
