JULY 6 READING…2 KINGS 19 & PSALM 76 & Nahum 1-3
God will not be blasphemed. He will avenge His Name, and those who speak against Him shall one day face Him. The king of Assyria found out that the God of Israel was not like the false gods of the other nations he had conquered. Those false gods were impotent…while God is all powerful. Assyria lost tens of thousands of men in one night by the hand of God…and the king of Assyria was killed in his own house. That day he got to meet the all-powerful God he had blasphemed. The Psalmist reminds us that as we follow God, and live in obedience to Him, He is our defender. He comes to rescue us from the hand of those who are His enemies. He raises us up by His mighty hand, causes us to stand. Nahum’s book speaks of the destruction of Nineveh. God had given them and opportunity to repent of their evil under the prophecy of Jonah, and they did for a period of time. But, the time came when they turned from the Lord, and committed even greater evil. God brought destruction upon them, just as He said He would, because of their evil and blasphemy against Him. We live in a time of great evil and blasphemy against God. You can know it wont stand…God will avenge His Name.
