JULY 4 READING…1 CORINTHIANS 1
Much like our country was over 240 years ago, the church at Corinth was in its infancy. They needed direction and the wisdom of God. The Holy Spirit inspired Paul to write this letter of correction and guidance to this church. His words, because they are from God, are as true today as they were when he pinned them. They are not only for the church in Corinth, but they are for every church that claims the Name of Jesus. Paul was concerned about the misunderstanding and misuse of spiritual gifts in the church. He was also concerned about division in the church as they were separating into groups, claiming different leaders for their groups. Paul made in clear that in the church there are no famous, no personalities to follow…in the church there is only Jesus. No man or woman has given us what we have from God…it came from Jesus through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Therefore, Paul tells us that we are to glory only in the Lord. We can certainly appreciate one another in the church…but glory and honor belong only to Jesus!
