JULY 29 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: EPHESIANS 5:15-21

We all have the tendency of wanting to give to God only the parts of our lives that we want to give. We tell Him, “God it's okay for you to be involved here, but I don't want your involvement over here...I’ve got that under control." It goes to our way of thinking that we live two lives, one sacred...where God is allowed and one secular...where God is not welcome and we are in control. We do this and then wonder why "the Christian life" does not work...it works, but we have fooled ourselves into believing that God can be compartmentalized in our lives.

Jesus said, "No one can serve two masters..." In the biblical Christian life we have to be all in, or we are not in at all. I am not speaking of salvation right now, but about our walk. Paul says that we have one of two choices as Christians...we are either carnal, led by our own flesh; or we are spiritual, led by the Holy Spirit. There is no middle ground! When we walk in the flesh, we are capable of every sin that lost people do. In the Spirit, we will see the fruit of the Spirit and we will always be led in righteousness. Again, our issue is we want to live in both at the same time-this is impossible, for to try to live in both is carnality and it is a sin. We are called to be filled with the Spirit, which means to walk daily, everywhere we go and in everything we do, controlled by the Holy Spirit.
