JULY 25 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: JOHN 14:1-4

We believers understand that this world is not all there is. We understand that this is not our home, but we are actually aliens in this world. Jesus said, "I go and prepare a place for you and if I go I will come back and receive you unto myself, that where I am you may be also." He told us that in His Father's house there are many mansions...and it is Jesus who has prepared these, our final homes, for each one who believes in Him. Paul told us that when he considers what that place is to be like, he considers his present sufferings to be small in comparison. We don't get to chose our path here on earth, some have to suffer, some have to face persecution, some sickness, some poverty...but in Christ Jesus all these things are temporal and He is holding eternity for each of us!

Our Savior is not some distant Deity that does not understand our sufferings. He Himself endured unspeakable suffering like no man has ever endured. He is the King of glory who allowed Himself to be put to shame, to be hanged on a cursed tree, to die in our stead. He knows our pain, our sufferings, our persecution, our rejection...even better than we do ourselves. The Bible says that He did all this for the "joy that was set before Him.” What changed for Jesus on the cross? He did not become the Lord on the cross...He is eternally the Lord. He did not become accepted of His Father on the cross...for the Father has always accepted and loved the Son. On the cross, He became our Redeemer...our salvation is His joy! "Oh the love that drew salvation’s plan, Oh the grace that brought it down to man. Oh the mighty gulf that God did span...AT CALVARY!" Thank you Jesus for all You endured that I might know the forgiveness of my sin and have eternal life!
