JULY 22 DEVOTIONAL BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 11:27-30
We often try to carry burdens that we are not equipped to carry. If we are not careful, we soon become weighed down with so much we can hardly function. We are told me to, "cast all our cares on Him (Jesus), for He cares for you.” Trying to carry everything on our own soon leads us to the place where we cannot carry or do anything. It affects us physically, emotionally and spiritually. If we are not careful it will incapacitate us and set us on the sideline.
Jesus told us to come to Him and that when we do His, "yoke is easy and His burden is light." When Jesus walked through the countryside of the Galilee, He saw the people weighed down with so much. Along with the everyday cares of life these people were also burdened with a religious system that had grown cumbersome and virtually impossible to live. Jesus saw this and offered people a way of freedom. He taught them that the truth actually set them free and this freedom lifted their heavy burdens.
Today, we too need to be reminded that we are called to a faith that trusts in Jesus...one where we are not to be encumbered by the things of this world...one that is not based on religious requirements to live up to, but to a Savior who has set us free from the burden of our sin and carries all our burdens.
