JULY 18 READING…1 CORINTHIANS 11
The Lord has set an order in creation that should be reflected in society, in the home, and in the church. Some don’t like this, but it’s a matter of God’s creative order…it is not for a time or a season, but for all time. Paul talks of headship in this chapter, he says…”Christ is the head of every man, the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God. This is not about importance, nor is it about abilities, nor is it an attack on equality. You can know this as the Scriptures teach that Jesus being God, as a member of the Trinity, is certainly equal with God the Father. This is about proper biblical order…for God is a God of order. Mankind finds itself in a mess when they decide they will reject God’s creative order and rearrange it according to their own desires. You don’t believe me? Just look at the condition of our society…and look at the condition of the church in our day. They are both a mess (not all churches, for sure…because not all churches have rejected God’s authority in creation). The woman came from man…it’s God’s creative order...and though men and women are equal, they are not the same, by design. Men and women are distinctly different physically, emotionally, and spiritually…this is how God created us. The head covering Paul speaks of in this passage speaks of an understanding, and submission to God’s creative order. Paul then speaks of coming in a right manner to take the Lord’s Supper. It’s is not a drunken feast of gluttony…it is a time to remember the sacrifice of Christ for our salvation. We are called to examine ourselves before we take the Lord’s Supper, as we do not want to take it in an unworthy manner.
Please share your thoughts.
