JULY 10, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

JULY 10 READING…SONG OF SOLOMON 7-8 & ECCLESIASTES 1-4

The writings of Solomon are what we have read today. The poetry of the Song of Solomon, as we learned yesterday, is an allegory of the intimacy we are called to have with the Lord, gives way to the wisdom of Solomon in the book of Ecclesiastes. Solomon, one of the riches kings in history, had everything a person could ever want…he lacked nothing this world had to offer. At the end of his life, he looks back on all the worldly pleasures and riches he enjoyed, and had to declare that it was all vanity. That it really amounted to nothing, and had no eternal value. Time moves on, one generation after another…we are here, and then we are gone. When we are gone someone else will take our place, and we will be forgotten. We will not be able to take anything from this world into eternity. Jesus echoed this sentiment when He asked the question, “What will a man give in exchange for his soul?” The only thing of eternal value that we have, that we will take into eternity, is our soul. That is why it is so important to place our trust in Jesus in this life, while we have the opportunity to decide what we will do with our soul. God is in control of our lives, and while we live we will experience all kinds of different seasons of life. We don’t have control over those seasons…but we do have control over how we will respond to God through those seasons.

Please share your thoughts.
