JANUARY 6, 2023 ~ THEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

JANUARY 6 READING…GENESIS 11-13 & EPHESIANS 6

Today’s theme is God’s sovereign plan in history, leading to redemption. In Genesis we read of post-flood humanity…and that once again they have become completely corrupt. They even began to build a tower to themselves, declaring they would reach the heavens and know what God knows…a type of ancient Gnosticism. The Lord stops them by confusing their ability to communicate…mankind then separates into their different tribal groups. From Seth, the son of Noah, comes a man named Terah, whose son Abram is a major part of God’s plan in human history. God instructs Abram to get out of his country and head toward Canaan, for the Lord has a great plan for Abram. Abram and his wife, Sarai, end up in Egypt, and God uses Sarai’s beauty to create an alliance between Abram and Egypt. Abram and his nephew Lot had too many people for the land of Canaan, so Lot chooses the land to the south that looked so green and plentiful. Lot would soon find out the grass is not always greener on the other side.

In Ephesians 6 we see the continue plan of God for His people. His plan for good relationships between parents and their children, and between masters and slaves(or in our time, employers and employees). Then the Scripture instructs us in how we are to be equipped to stand against the schemes of the devil. Paul likens our spiritual equipment to that which a Roman soldier would wear prepared for battle. We are in a spiritual battle, and we must have the armor of God in order to overcome the enemy of our soul.

Please share your thoughts.
